Value Selling
How to choose value selling software

Value selling software is the category of tools that help a sales team build a buyer's case for change. The tools differ on whether knowledge survives the deal, whether a person approves a claim, whether the arithmetic is deterministic, and whether a case the buyer already received stays put when the library changes.
This is a way to choose. It is not a ranking. Serre, a durable value model for B2B sales teams, is one product in that category, and the questions below are meant for every vendor, including Serre. No value engineer is required to run it. If a calculator already does the job, you don't need a platform.
Key takeaways
- 1Ask every vendor the same questions. A score we have not earned is not one of them.
- 2Look for recorded approval, knowledge that survives the deal, and arithmetic the prose does not touch.
- 3Ask what happens to a version the buyer already has when the library changes.
- 4If your argument does not vary by account, or nobody will approve a claim, Serre is the wrong tool.
50%
of chatbot users said AI had the greatest impact when they were narrowing and comparing options. The same release says 82% of buyers had sourced a software recommendation from an AI chatbot in the previous 24 months. Both figures are self-reported. The publisher is a review platform.
G2 2026 Buyer Behavior Report, online survey of 1,038 B2B software decision-makers, June 2026, plus 55 interviews
People are already comparing with a model in the loop. That is a reason to publish the questions, not a reason to invent a winner. The G2 release is the source. Several products advertise overlapping approaches. Serre has not published a scored comparison, and this page will not borrow one from anybody's marketing.
Value selling software is a category, not a score
If the second rep can bend the calculator into shape before lunch, and buyers accept what comes out, you already have a tool. Stop the evaluation there. A platform earns its place when the same product has to say something different for two accounts, and the reasoning keeps getting rebuilt and thrown away.
The dimensions below are the ones that change the work. Price, a marketplace badge, and a list of export formats do not tell you whether the tenth case is better than the first.
Ask every vendor, including Serre
Ask this
Does a specialist have to run it?
A useful answer
Approval is a judgment, not a hire
A value engineer can be the steward where you have one. Serre does not require that seat. An enablement lead, a sales manager, a product marketer, a founder, or an AE can approve what enters the library.
Ask this
Does anything survive the deal?
A useful answer
Claims, conditions, and evidence stay
The next case should start from the last correction, not from a blank prompt. A draft that forgets the correction is a general-purpose model with extra steps.
Ask this
Who produces the number?
A useful answer
Deterministic arithmetic
On Serre, the same inputs give the same result. Narrative describes the result. It does not calculate it. Ask any other vendor to show you the same split.
Ask this
What happens after you generate it?
A useful answer
The sent version stays as generated
Weakest joint
Editing the library does not rewrite a delivery version already generated. Later cases start from the correction. Ask to see that happen. A slogan about a single source of truth is not the demonstration.
Ask this
One case, or a version per person?
A useful answer
One argument for the group
Serre builds one committee-coherent case. Different readers can see different framings of the same benefit, and those framings are not extra amounts to add up. Individual-level tailoring had a 59% negative impact on buying-group consensus in a Gartner survey of 632 B2B buyers, August–September 2024, published 7 May 2025. That figure is not a Serre result.
What we will not hand you
Serre will not name a rival on this page, score one, or declare a winner. A comparison that names another company needs a dated evaluation, with sources and with what was not tested, filed before the page exists. That record is not here. The honest comparison we can make is against research, a general-purpose model, and a spreadsheet, across setup, correction, review, and upkeep.
Who Serre isn't for
Say this early, including to yourself. A disqualifier is a successful outcome of the conversation.
Stop if one of these is true
The buyer approves the purchase without an internal case. The value argument is the same for every account, so a published calculator is enough. The current process already produces cases buyers use without the rep in the room. Nobody will approve what enters the library. The real constraint is product fit, price, pipeline, or implementation, and the case is not the binding problem. Or you want a public lead calculator, post-sale outcome tracking, or a sequencing tool. Those are different jobs.
Value engineering for every seller is the fit when the work recurs, the argument changes by account, and someone will decide what the company is willing to claim. The product page that shows the work, rather than the category, is value selling software for a case the committee can read.
The job description people search for next to this category is covered in what an AI value engineer does, and what it can't do. The loop is in how AI value selling works when the case has to hold. The contents of a sendable case are in what business case generation for software sales has to include.
Turn every deal into a defensible case for change.
Value engineering for every seller. A person approves what enters the library.
