Meet Val, your value-engineering copilot

Reflects the product as of 2026-06-10

Val is the AI copilot built into Serre. Wherever you see an "Ask Val" button, you can describe what you want in plain language and Val drafts it — a value driver, a formula change, a profile edit — for you to review before anything is saved.

Where Val shows up

  • Company profile — "change HQ to Austin", "add a highlight about our SOC 2 certification".
  • Value Driver Studio — Val's home turf. Describe a benefit in plain English and Val drafts the whole driver: name, inputs, formula, defaults. Or refine an existing one: "make the defaults more conservative", "add a ramp-up factor for year one".
  • Setup wizard — Val helps configure solutions, pricing, and evidence as you onboard.
  • Business cases — the Val Review step pressure-tests your finished case: flags, suggestions, and passed checks, plus a verdict on how the case will land.
  • Models (Beta) — suggestions while you build cost models.

The rules Val plays by

Three things are true everywhere Val appears:

  1. You review everything. Val proposes; you accept. Nothing saves until you do.
  2. Val never touches your results. The numbers in a business case come from your formulas and inputs — real math you can read. Val drafts formulas and writes narrative; it does not generate or adjust calculated figures.
  3. Val remembers the conversation. Follow-ups like "actually, make that quarterly instead" work — you don't have to restate context every message.

What Val costs

Val's drafting runs on AI Generations, your plan's monthly allowance. Every button that consumes one says so right on it — for example "(uses 1 AI Generation)". Saving your work is always free; only the AI drafting is metered. See Manage your team and plan for how the allowance works.
