Val is the AI copilot built into Serre. Wherever you see the Val button, click it (or press ⌘J / Ctrl+J) to open a chat panel beside the page. Describe what you want in plain language and Val drafts it or makes the change — a value driver, a formula change, a profile edit — and tells you what it did. The page stays usable while the panel is open.
Where Val shows up#
- Company profile — "change HQ to Austin", "add a highlight about our SOC 2 certification". Val makes the edit and tells you; removing a solution asks you first.
- Driver Studio — Val's home turf. Describe a benefit in plain English and Val drafts the whole driver: name, inputs, formula, example values. Or refine an existing one: "make the example values more conservative", "add a ramp-up factor for year one". Nothing in the Studio saves until you do.
- Setup — Val drafts your company profile, value claims, and drivers as you onboard.
- Solutions — "Build it with Val" drafts a new solution from a short interview.
- Business cases — on Calculate, click "Ask Val about these numbers". The Val Review step pressure-tests your finished case: red flags, suggestions, and passed checks, plus a verdict on how the case will land.
- Integrity — click "Send to Val" on a finding and Val proposes the fix for you to approve.
- Models (Beta) — Val builds the model with you in chat.
The rules Val plays by#
Three things are true everywhere Val appears:
- You stay in control. In the Driver Studio, nothing saves until you do. Elsewhere, Val tells you what it changed and asks you to confirm anything risky, like removing a solution.
- Val never touches your results. The numbers in a business case come from your formulas and inputs — real math you can read. Val drafts formulas and writes narrative; it does not generate or adjust calculated figures.
- Val remembers the conversation. Follow-ups like "actually, make that quarterly instead" work — you don't have to restate context every message.
What Val costs#
Val's drafting runs on AI credits, your plan's pooled allowance. Buttons that use them carry a sparkle icon; hover one to see what it costs — for example "Uses 1 AI credit". In a Val chat, each message you send uses AI credits. Saving your work is always free; only the AI drafting is metered. See Manage your team and plan for how the allowance works.
